What is Samboners?
Samboners is a movement that originated on Instagram designed to support small restaurant businesses in the Philadelphia area in the wake of the pandemic. Through its often hilarious video reviews, Samboners highlights local specialty sandwiches and has an excellent tagline “Take a look, Take a bite!” along with an informal rating scale.
At Sam’s Italian Market, we’re huge supporters of the Samboners and all local businesses working hard to survive and thrive through the pandemic.
Samboners even has a listing in Urban Dictionary!
Samboner – A sandwich connoisseur from the Philadelphia area. A samboner will talk for hours on end about slab vs chopped cheesesteaks, Wiz vs American vs Cooper Sharp, broccoli rabe vs creamed spinach in a roast pork sambo, not to mention debates over sambo-producing venues. Along with “sambo” (noun, sandwich) another variation of samboner is “sambone” (verb, to eat a sambo and assess its merits on video for other samboners).
Who can be a Samboner?
Samboners is open to anyone who wants to support these local businesses – you’re encouraged to shoot your own video and tag #Samboners on social media, and take a look, and take a bite yourself!
Sam’s was actually featured on a post in January during “Specialty Jawn month” by local Chef Chad Rosenthal that features our Smokin’ Turkey.
Thanks Chef Chad!
